Who am I? Why this blog?
Minutes of brianstorming, and I still don't have an "unconventional" idea to begin this description. My name is Malini Bhattacharya, and I'm twenty-one in July. I have always loved writing, putting together stories about stars and fruitcake and goblins. I took up a practical fiction writing course in college (Jaadavpur University, Calcutta, my major is English), and although I learned plenty of writing techniques and plot development ideas, I knew in the end that I could never produce quality fiction. My prof told me I should dabble in non-fiction, and I called up a few editors to send in some anecdotes. One thing led to another, and now I am interning with The Statesman. I have a column, Freewheeling, which comes out every Sunday in Evolve, and I do the occasional piece for Voices, 8th Day and Campus. This blog is where I share my experiences of reporting for "serious" stories, interviews and interactions.
